Canoeing, Kayaking and Dragon Boat Racing are permitted in groups greater than 6 under the new law of 6.   You need a group of 6-12 to book one of our canoes.   5 if we know the wind conditions are going be light.   If you are booking our activity as part of a bigger event, eg combining it with a visit to a pub or cafe or another social gathering, you will need to consider this new legislation and it is your responsibility to make a judgement on how to adhere to it.

OPEN  for private group bookings.    We are not able to operate our 'By-the-Seat' adventures, ie for individuals, couples and small families at the moment.

Prices and logistics

Our standard adventures last 4.5 to 5 hours.

Times vary daily according to the tide and prior booking is essential.

Most adventures start and finish at the excellent Maltsters Arms, Tuckenhay (TQ9 7EQ), lying halfway between Totnes and Dartmouth. Parking is nearby.  We also start from Stoke Gabriel, which is on the other side of the estuary between Totnes and Paignton, and occassionally from Totnes, Dittisham and Dartmouth.  Totnes and Dartmouth only allow coach access.  There is a towing and transport fee for ports other than Tuckenhay and Stoke Gabriel, applied to private group bookings.

Per person and family prices -  for our scheduled 'by-the-seat' adventures (ie not booking a private canoe)

  • £35 per person
  • £20 per child (<16 years old) *
  • Under 3 years: FREE!
  • Family ticket £95 (2 adults, 2 children). Saves £15!  *

* Please note child and family tickets are not always valid on our specials and late night pub to pub adventures.

Group prices - book your own canoe, or fleet of canoes!

We have a fleet of 6 canoes with a capacity to get 60 adults out on the water at any one time, up to 69 if you have very small children:

  • Three x 8 metre canoes; take up to 5-8 paddlers each.  Maximum licensed capacity is 11 people if including small children.
  • Three x 9 metre Longbow canoes; take up to 12 paddlers each.  Fill one of these and get excellent per person value of £21 per person.  Maximum licensed capacity is 12 people of any age.
  • Please note we have to consider weight and power to operate each canoe safely.  By 'paddlers' we generally mean adults or paddling teens, or closest combination, eg 4 adults and 4x7-10 year olds = approx 6or7 paddlers.  For this reason it is important we know the age ranges of all your under 18s so we can best advise which canoe you need.
  • 5-6 paddlers: £210
  • 7 paddlers: £220  (£31.50 per person)
  • 8 paddlers in an 8m canoe: £230 (£28.75 per person).  Please note if 8 large adults we would recommend the larger 9m canoe, see below:
  • 8-12 paddlers: £250 (£21-£31.25 per person)

Additional optional costs for private groups:

  • To add a BBQ option - £12 (£10+VAT).  We provide the equipment to cook and help you get the right fire going, you provide the food and chefs.
  • Extra hours in addition to the standard 4.5 to 5 hour adventure - £15 per hour per boat.  For example, a pub lunch stop, extra time on the shore to run additional activities, paddling Totnes to Dartmouth and back, or taking the longer Sharpham vineyard tour.
  • Towage to ports other than Tuckenhay or Stoke Gabriel - price on asking.
