River School

Suitable for:8-14 year olds

River School. A programme of activities across the year.

"Where nature is the teacher and the river is our guide"

  • An exciting opportunity to explore the River Dart by canoe, learn bushcraft skills and gain river knowledge.
  • Each session will have a different theme to suit the season with activities including campfire building and cooking, knife skills, wild swimming, free play and exploration and time to just hang out by the river. 
  • Evening Sessions - Every other Wednesday throughout the second half of summer term and the first half of autumn term. 
  • Full, Day Adventures  - Going further in our canoes on 5+ hour expeditions, experiencing the river in the different seasons
  • A fun and safe experience for both girls and boys.
  • Led by Canoe Adventures Director, bushcraft instructor and youth mentor, Hugh Clifford.

Evening Sessions - Every other Wednesday throughout the second half of summer term and the first half of autumn term. 

  • A programme of 6 sessions, 3 per half-term, fortnightly.  
  • Wednesdays 1800 to 2100hrs
  • 10/06/20; 24/06/20; 08/07/20; 16/09/20; 30/09/20; 14/10/20
  • Starting and ending at the Maltsters Arms, Tuckenhay.
  • £15 per session, £60 for all six (ie £10 per session)

 

Full, Day Adventures  - Going further in our canoes on 5+ hour expeditions.

  • Experiencing the river in the different seasons
  • Spring holidays, summer half-term and Autumn half-term
  • Starting and ending at the Maltsters Arms, Tuckenhay.
  • £20 per session, certificate for completing all three

Spring: Fire and Forage

Learn about the abundant wild food available on the river and share a hearty wild food feast together round the campfire.

What’s happening on the river when it’s warm enough to jump in?    It will be muddy, it may well be wet!

Autumn:  Fish, fire and final flurry of colour.   

Marvel at the changing colours of autumn, the abundance of fish in our river and share what you have learned with your family – bring a parent/carer or two!
